In 2016 the Swiss Society for Meteorology (Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Meteorologie, SGM) celebrates its 100th anniversary. The idea of this book is to give an overview of what has happened in the field of atmospheric sciences in Switzerland since the first systematic long-term meteorological observations until today.
The booking contains 21 chapters concerning climate and meteorological issues in Switzerland. The first section shows the range from the early pioneers to the basics of meteorology and climatology. The second part explains measurements as foundation to meteorology and climatology. The third section discusses specific atmospheric phenomena that got special attention in Switzerland and selected fields of applied meteorology. The evolution of atmospheric chemistry into an integrated part of atmospheric sciences is explained in the fourth part. The last section broadens the view from climatology to climate sciences, including paleoclimatology and the IPCC Swiss contributions.
